Friends

Working our passage of time on this earth,
We strive to be good for all we are worth

Sometimes we are happy, sometimes we are sad,
Sometimes we are angry, upset or just mad

From the moment we’re born to the time we pass on,
Each person we meet in our space now belongs

Mothers and fathers look after our needs,
From when we were small till we grow up and leave

We meet friends at school where we learn how to play,
Some with us for life till we turn old and grey

Others we meet cause us anger and pain,
Better we part never meeting again

Once schooldays have ended to work we must go,
On trains or on busses each day to and fro

Meeting new friends and spreading our wings,
Learning new skills and all sorts of things

We may find a lover and then settle down,
And bring up our children with friends all around

But sometimes life doesn’t work out quite like that,
Our hope has all gone we feel utterly flat

Struggling hard each and every day,
With no friends at all and no reason to stay

Here on this earth where there’s no place to go,
If we were not here would anyone know

When we are down to our uttermost depth,
And our faces show marks from the tears we have wept

A friend come along and helps us to smile,
And suddenly life becomes very worthwhile

We shun our misfortune be gone tales of woe,
By sharing our problems they shrivel and go

And helping a friend who is in desperate need ,
Gives us meaning to this life when on love we feed.
